In wet locations, insulation must be able to withstand moisture. The NEC allows that to be shown in three ways: the conductor can be listed for wet locations, rated for wet locations, or deemed suitable for wet locations. Each of these terms confirms that the product is appropriate for exposure to moisture. Because all three descriptors satisfy the requirement, any of these ways to describe the conductor’s suitability is acceptable. Wet locations are areas exposed to water, rain, immersion, or high humidity, so using conductors that meet one of these criteria ensures they will perform safely in such environments.
